Welcome to Play Up: Percussion, Wigmore Hall’s first online resource for schools. The site is designed for key stage 2 classes, helping teachers and their students be creative and confident with percussion instruments that are available in most schools.
The resource:
- Shows how percussion instruments can be played to get a variety of great sounds
- Gives a range of different rhythms and techniques that you can learn together as a class
- Gives ideas for class activities using the instruments
You do not need to be a music specialist to use this resource with your class – a bit of coordination and the ability to tap your toe in time is all you need to lead these activities. You do need some cabassas, tambourines and drums.
To get started: select an instrument on the right to try some interactive activities with percussionist Jez Wiles. There are four different activities for each instrument which you can work through in order.
